NBA The Run PS5 open beta starts May 30 with five Street Legends

NBA The Run’s PS5 open beta starts May 30 and includes five Street Legends: Spin Cycle, Shen Tong, DJ, El Gigante and Bobbito Garcia.

NBA The Run’s open beta on PlayStation 5 begins May 30 and runs through the weekend, offering early access to five Street Legends ahead of the game’s June 9 PS5 launch. The full game is scheduled to release June 9 for $29.99; it is available to wishlist on the PlayStation Store and more details are on nbatherun.com.

The beta is intended to let players test controls and submit feedback before release. The studio described one design priority as making the game feel smooth and responsive for moves such as stepbacks, blocks and aerial plays, adding that the team will collect player impressions through its Discord channel.

Street Legends are fictional characters created for the game, with one exception: Bobbito Garcia is based on a real-life streetball caller. Each Legend is built with three high-end skills and matched weaknesses. The roster aims to provide specialist options that differ from typical NBA player avatars in the game.

Spin Cycle is a Philadelphia-born ballhandler whose home court is Spring Garden. He has elite handling and hands and a Pickpocket Zone ability that disrupts ballhandlers. He is limited at finishing at the rim.

Shen Tong is a 14-year-old streetball player from Beijing’s Dongdan Sports Complex. At 5’3″, he has strong hops and elite passing. His In the Zone ability, Dropping Dimes, boosts his assists and teammates’ shot success. Shen Tong is weaker on defense and in physical matchups and unlocks at level 5 during the beta.

Destiny Jackson, known as DJ, plays at Rucker Park. She is a long-range scoring specialist with elite midrange and deep shooting. Her Deep Threat ability increases outside scoring while In the Zone. She has limited rim attack and rebounding.

El Gigante is a 7’7″ Spaniard based at Venice Beach who controls the paint with high rebounding and blocking ratings. His Paint Control ability deters drives to the rim. He has slower mobility and longer recovery when he commits and misses.

Bobbito Garcia serves as the in-game voice and is included as a real-life figure in the cast. He is a long-range shooter with an Ankle Breaker ability that creates scoring chances while In the Zone, and he is a weaker defender.

The studio noted that Street Legends are intended to create risk-and-reward choices for squad composition. One example offered by the studio pairs a paint-dominant Legend such as El Gigante with perimeter players to protect the rim and convert stops into momentum. The studio said it will continue to update the game based on beta feedback.
