Near-complete PS5 build of Gears of War: E-Day reportedly exists

A near-complete PS5 build of Gears of War: E-Day reportedly remains on a drive after Microsoft cancelled the PlayStation release, journalist Jeff Grubb reported.

Journalist Jeff Grubb reported that a near-complete PlayStation 5 build of Gears of War: E-Day remains on a hard drive despite Microsoft cancelling the PS5 release.

A PEGI listing for the game published earlier this week included PlayStation 5 among the platforms, and a physical PS5 SKU appeared in retailer databases. The game is scheduled to launch on October 6 for other confirmed platforms.

Grubb wrote: “So yeah, there’s a basically finished version of Gears for PlayStation sitting on a drive.”

Xbox issued a public clarification saying the release is not a timed exclusive. The company and the game’s developer have not provided a timeline or a detailed reason for cancelling the PS5 version.

A PlayStation 3 build of a previous Gears title was developed and later cancelled years ago. It is unknown whether the PS5 build will be released in any form.
