NHK Symphony Records Main Theme for Pokemon Winds & Waves

NHK Symphony Orchestra released a behind-the-scenes video of its studio recording of the main theme for Pokemon Winds & Waves, marking the orchestra’s 100th anniversary and linked to Japan concert tours.

The Pokemon Company posted a behind-the-scenes video showing the NHK Symphony Orchestra performing and recording the main theme for Pokemon Winds & Waves for Nintendo Switch 2. The recording is part of the orchestra’s 100th anniversary activities and will provide material for Pokemon concert tours planned in Japan.

The video documents studio sessions in which the orchestra performs the game’s principal theme and orchestral arrangements designed for large outdoor areas and small island locations featured in early promotional material. The footage includes excerpts of the score and scenes of the musicians and conductor during the sessions.

Pokemon Winds & Waves is confirmed as the next mainline title and as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, with a target release in 2027.

The NHK Symphony Orchestra, one of Japan’s largest professional ensembles, recorded the piece to mark its centennial and to prepare repertoire for a series of themed concerts. The Pokemon Company has indicated the orchestral recordings will be used in upcoming live shows across Japan.

The Winds & Waves recording follows previous orchestral performances and studio recordings tied to the franchise’s games. The new score will be part of the planned concert events connected to the game’s launch.

The behind-the-scenes video is available online for fans to view and to hear portions of the new theme ahead of the game’s release.
