Ninja Theory renames Senua’s Saga to Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga

Ninja Theory renamed Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 to Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga, placing the Hellblade name before the subtitle.

Ninja Theory renamed Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 to Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga today, updating the official title to place the Hellblade name first.

The studio said the retitling aligns the sequel with the wider Hellblade franchise while keeping the focus on the series lead, Senua. Ninja Theory described the separate Senua project as an ‘additive’ adventure and said it is aimed at players who have not played earlier entries.

Ninja Theory wrote that Hellblade 2 is presented so players unfamiliar with prior games ‘are fully going to understand and get what’s happening in this title.’ The company stated the sequel’s story will also serve returning players.

Dom Matthews, head of Ninja Theory, wrote that the studio’s ambition is ‘a story the Hellblade fans are going to love, but is welcoming to new fans too, who will love it just as much.’

The renaming reverses the previous subtitle order used in marketing. Ninja Theory added that the change clarifies branding between the mainline sequel and the separate Senua project and follows the game’s appearance at a recent Xbox showcase.

Hellblade began with 2017’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, an action-adventure title noted for its depiction of mental health and cinematic presentation. Ninja Theory has continued development on a sequel and additional Senua-focused experiences; the new title order is intended to make the relationship between those projects clearer.
