Ninja Theory’s Senua action-adventure arrives on Game Pass 2027

Ninja Theory announced Senua, a new Hellblade action-adventure, will launch on Xbox Series X|S, PC and day-one on Game Pass in 2027 with expanded combat and exploration.

Ninja Theory unveiled Senua at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026. The title is an action-adventure set in the Hellblade universe and will release on Xbox Series X, Series S and PC, with day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass in 2027.

Ninja Theory, an Xbox first-party studio, described Senua as a change from the tightly focused psychological narrative of earlier Hellblade entries to a more traditional action-adventure design. Studio representatives called the project a ‘different kind’ of experience and noted it was built to give players ‘more agency and a lot more gameplay’.

The developer indicated the game will retain the series’ storytelling and production values while expanding gameplay systems. The studio highlighted deeper combat, greater traversal and exploration, and an ‘interconnected world.’ The map will be larger than Hellblade II in scale, though the studio emphasized the story remains linear.

Senua follows a Celtic warrior who exists between life and death in a fractured vision of purgatory. Players will guide her as she fights to reach the afterlife and reunite with people she loved while confronting forces that challenge her beliefs.

The studio did not provide a specific release date beyond the 2027 window shown at the showcase, nor did it give detailed descriptions of combat mechanics or the exact size of the interconnected areas. Senua’s day-one release on Game Pass means subscribers will have immediate access at launch.

The announcement came soon after Hellblade II. The studio acknowledged that timing and presented the design changes as a response to fan requests for greater interactivity and to common action-adventure conventions.
