Nintendo Direct Tops Summer Showcases With 3.8M Peak

LevelUp reports Nintendo’s recent Direct peaked at 3.8 million viewers, edging Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Showcase (3.7 million); the Ocarina of Time trailer reached about 115 million views.

LevelUp, a games analytics firm, reported that Nintendo’s recent Direct peaked at 3.8 million concurrent viewers, the highest among this summer’s major gaming showcases.

The firm’s rankings place Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Showcase at a 3.7 million peak, Sony’s State of Play at 2.9 million and Microsoft’s Xbox presentation at 2.2 million. LevelUp compiled peak concurrent viewership across streaming and broadcast platforms to produce the comparisons.

LevelUp estimated the trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time shown during the Direct reached about 115 million views in total across video and social platforms. That total aggregates on-demand, reposted and platform-hosted views rather than live concurrent viewers.

Nintendo’s Direct included announcements for Ocarina of Time, Xenoblade Genesis and Switch Sports Resort. The company had not held a major first-party Direct for an extended period before this presentation, and there was a reported leak a few months earlier.

LevelUp noted that time zones and scheduling can influence peak live numbers, since viewers in different regions tune in at different hours. The firm added that its peak figures reflect immediate concurrent audience sizes and do not capture longer-term engagement with trailers and announcements.

All of the summer showcases were streamed globally, allowing audiences to watch live and access presentations on demand afterward. The LevelUp measurements provide a snapshot of live viewership and cross-platform trailer totals for the period.
