Nintendo will release Pictonico for iOS and Android on May 28. The free-to-start app asks players to choose existing photos or take new ones and places those images into quick minigames featuring friends and family.
Gameplay includes light action and short challenges that can turn a portrait into scenes such as zombie attacks, costume changes, carnival games, a staged red carpet walk or a ballet performance. Several minigames are available to play for free.
Additional volumes of content can be purchased in the app to expand the library, eventually offering up to 80 minigames that range from simple to more difficult. Results from each round are rendered as images or short videos that users can save to their device and share.
Pre-registrations are available on the App Store and Google Play starting today. Nintendo’s U.K. account posted the release date and pre-registration details and noted the app focuses on lighthearted, shareable outcomes rather than complex gameplay systems.
Nintendo did not include pricing for the extra volumes in the pre-registration notice. The app will be available on iPhone, iPad and Android devices at launch.
