Nintendo announces Star Fox 64 remake for Switch 2

Nintendo announced a Star Fox 64 remake for the Nintendo Switch 2 titled Star Fox during a surprise Nintendo Direct, keeping the original stage layout and updating visuals.

Nintendo announced a remake of the 1997 Nintendo 64 game Star Fox 64 for the Nintendo Switch 2 during a surprise Nintendo Direct. The new release is titled Star Fox and retains the original stage layout while offering updated visuals optimized for the Switch 2.

Footage shown during the Direct displayed modernized visual effects and reworked environments. The sequence and structure of levels remain the same as in the 1997 title, with visual updates presented as the primary change.

The announcement was part of a Direct focused on the Star Fox franchise. The company presented the release as a remake rather than a reimagining and did not highlight major changes to level design or core gameplay.

The original Star Fox 64 introduced characters Fox McCloud, Peppy Hare, Slippy Toad and Falco Lombardi and follows their mission to save the Lylat System from the villain Andross. Nintendo previously released a separate adaptation, Star Fox 64 3D, for the Nintendo 3DS that updated visuals and controls for handheld play.

Nintendo did not provide information on a release date, pricing or specific gameplay changes in the materials shown during the Direct.
