Nintendo Confirms Switch 2 Will Have Replaceable EU Battery

Nintendo confirmed that future Nintendo Switch 2 models sold in the European Union will include a user-replaceable battery. The company noted versions with that design will be available by February 2027 to meet new EU battery rules.

The announcement appeared on Nintendo’s website and ties the availability date to the February 2027 start of the EU requirements. Nintendo said it will prepare product versions that meet the Regulation to comply with those rules.

The change applies only to models offered in the European Union. Nintendo indicated the adjustment is intended to align with regulatory requirements and added it is unlikely other hardware features will change as a result.

Nintendo did not disclose technical details about how the replaceable battery will be implemented. The company did not specify whether the battery will be removable without tools, part of a modular bay, or require repair-service support. It also did not clarify if replacement-battery versions will be sold alongside non-replaceable variants in other regions or whether the update will affect pricing or accessory compatibility.

On its website, Nintendo wrote: “In order to comply with these requirements, we will be preparing versions of products to meet the Regulation.”

The announcement confirms the EU timing for replaceable-battery Switch 2 models and leaves operational details open for consumers and retailers ahead of the February 2027 compliance date.
