Nintendo warns Switch 2 price could rise again

Nintendo will raise Switch 2 prices by $50 in the U.S. and Canada on Sept. 1; president Shuntaro Furukawa warned component-cost uncertainty could lead to further increases into next year.

Nintendo will raise the price of the Switch 2 by $50 in the United States and Canada on Sept. 1. The company also plans a €30 increase for the console in Europe on the same date and will raise subscription fees for Switch 1, Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch Online in Japan on May 25.

The comments appeared in a transcript of an investor question-and-answer session released after Nintendo’s fourth-quarter financial report.

During the session, president Shuntaro Furukawa warned that fluctuating component prices could affect operations this year and into next year. He added, “We want to be able to respond flexibly to whatever situation arises.” He did not confirm any further specific price increases.

Following the earlier announcement of price and subscription adjustments, Nintendo’s share price fell about 10% over the weekend. Investors asked management how rising input costs and supply-chain pressures could affect company margins, retail pricing and demand for the new console.

Nintendo said it will monitor component-cost trends and may adjust pricing or take other measures to manage profitability and supply if conditions change. The company did not provide a timetable for any additional increases. The Sept. 1 and May 25 adjustments remain the scheduled changes currently announced by Nintendo.
