Oblivion Remastered May Get Switch 2 Optimizations

Bethesda is reviewing Switch 2 optimizations, including DLSS performance gains, for a possible PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC patch.

Bethesda Game Studios is exploring a patch for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered that would bring optimizations from the Nintendo Switch 2 release to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The remastered edition for PS5, Xbox and PC launched on April 22, 2025; the Switch 2 version arrived on August 11, 2026.

The Switch 2 build benefits from the console’s Nvidia silicon and support for Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), which can improve frame rates and image sharpness on that hardware. Bethesda noted the Switch 2 release contains a number of optimizations it is looking into porting to other platforms, but DLSS is not supported on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S because those consoles use AMD chips, so DLSS-dependent gains cannot be reproduced exactly on those systems.

Players have reported crashes and inconsistent frame pacing across versions since the remaster’s launch. The studio is reviewing the Switch 2 build to identify transferable improvements and is investigating changes that could improve frame-time stability, but it has not provided a timetable or a specific list of planned fixes. The PS5 and Xbox editions have received two post-launch patches so far, the most recent in July 2025; a new update would be the third for those platforms.

Technical constraints make a straight port of some Switch 2 changes difficult. Work to adapt optimizations could involve engine-level adjustments, changes to asset streaming or other technical fixes, though Bethesda has not specified which approaches it will pursue. The remaster uses an Unreal Engine 5 front end.

In a public response, Bethesda Game Studios wrote: “We’ve heard your feedback asking for an additional patch for Oblivion Remastered. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game has a number of optimizations that we are looking into bringing to other platforms and we will share more when we are able.”

The studio confirmed it is evaluating which Switch 2 optimizations can be adapted for AMD-based consoles and PC environments and said an evaluation period will come before any cross-platform patch announcement.
