Onimusha demo arrives on Xbox ahead of Sept. 25

A free Xbox demo for Onimusha: Way of the Sword is available on the Xbox Store ahead of the game’s Sept. 25, 2026 release; it runs on Xbox Series X and Series S.

Capcom has released a free demo for Onimusha: Way of the Sword on the Xbox Store ahead of the game’s September 25, 2026 launch. The demo offers a playable sample of one of the game’s opening stages and is available for Xbox Series X and Series S consoles.

The company revealed the release date during the State of Play June 2026 presentation and opened pre-orders the same day. The full game is listed on the Xbox Store at £64.99 / $69.99. Purchases of the Xbox console edition include a free PC copy through Xbox Play Anywhere.

Early reports noted the demo might not appear on the store immediately after the announcement; it has since been made available for compatible hardware. The demo is limited to Xbox Series X and Series S and focuses on early-game sword combat and level design rather than a complete experience.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set in an Edo-period Kyoto affected by a corruptive force called Malice. Players face supernatural enemies known in the series as Genma and use close-quarters sword combat across stages that mix historical locations with dark-fantasy elements.

The Xbox Store listing confirms the September 25 release date and the Xbox Play Anywhere PC bundle but does not list additional platforms beyond Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders remain open on the Xbox Store.
