Ori expansion delayed on Switch 2 and Xbox

Moon Studios, developer of the Ori series, confirmed the No Rest for the Wicked expansion will roll out in stages, with Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox versions arriving later than builds for other platforms.

The studio explained it is prioritizing release on platforms where the update is furthest along. Porting the expansion to additional hardware requires extra development and testing before a release can be scheduled.

Engineers pointed to differences in system architecture and platform certification processes as primary reasons for the delay. Adapting the build requires code changes, performance tuning and platform-specific quality testing to meet platform-holder requirements and the studio’s standards. Those steps can add weeks or months to the timeline, particularly for newly announced hardware.

The studio added staff hours are being balanced between live-game support, finalizing expansion content and platform engineering to ensure stable frame rates and responsive input across systems. Because of that prioritization, no firm release dates for Switch 2 or Xbox versions have been provided.

The staggered rollout follows past patterns in the Ori franchise when updates and ports appeared later on secondary platforms to allow time for optimization. Moon Studios plans to publish timing updates through its official channels once testing and certification allow a reliable schedule.

Players on platforms in the first wave can expect earlier access. Owners of Switch 2 and Xbox should expect a longer wait while the team completes porting, tuning and certification.
