Planet Zoo 2 trailer shows lifelike animals, new aquariums

Trailer highlights detailed Sumatran tigers, full 3D navigation for birds and fish, dynamic water and expanded conservation features. Game launches Oct. 13 on PC and Xbox Series X|S.

Frontier Developments released a Planet Zoo 2 trailer that presents new animal models, aquariums, aviaries and expanded management tools ahead of the game’s Oct. 13 release on PC and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders are available immediately.

The trailer shows Sumatran tigers with finer fur detail, facial expressions and more fluid movement. Tiger cubs appear in interactive play sequences. A living UI links animal behavior to mood and welfare, allowing keepers to see when an animal is lethargic or content and adjust habitats accordingly.

Western chimpanzees return with improved brachiation, more dynamic jumping and actions such as sleeping on climbing frames. Plains zebras, saltwater crocodiles and other terrestrial species appear in habitats with custom paths and layered scenery. Water has been rewritten to react to animal movement, producing ripples and waves when animals swim or cross pools.

Aquariums and aviaries are new habitat types. Both support full 3D navigation: fish can move freely through three dimensions and birds can fly and perch. The trailer includes a Hawksbill turtle, shoals of smaller fish, an Ocean sunfish and Toco toucans. Aviaries can be built with walls and a pole-based system that auto-generates coverings and can be configured to let guests walk through when it is safe.

Management systems have been expanded. Players must design habitats that reflect species’ natural environments to improve animal welfare and guest experience, which affects zoo ratings and income. Staff morale and training are part of park management as zoos grow. A global conservation layer enables projects to revitalize Wildlife Reserves and return zoo animals to native habitats.

Cohabitation from the original game returns and is emphasized as a factor in management. The trailer also hints at additional scenery themes for exhibit design. Pre-order buyers receive a Bonus Content Pack with the Toucan Eat Shop and signage, three unique animal donation bins and a Tiger Photo Stand-In Wall. The Deluxe Edition bundles the base game with a Deluxe Upgrade Pack that adds six animal species and exclusive signage. Suggested retail prices are $49.99 for the Standard Edition and $64.99 for the Deluxe Edition.

Frontier described its development goal as making animals feel ‘genuinely alive’ and said the team refined animations, behaviors and sound design across terrestrial, aquatic and flying species.
