Playground Games delays Fable to February 2027

Playground Games delayed Fable to February 2027, moving its planned PS5 release out of the Fall 2026 window so the title can have a ‘dedicated moment,’ Xbox confirmed.

Playground Games’ Fable has been delayed to February 2027, Xbox confirmed on social media. The new date removes the game’s planned PlayStation 5 release from an earlier Fall 2026 window.

Xbox posted that the change was made ‘so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves.’ The company did not provide a specific day in February or an updated production timeline.

Playground Games is developing Fable as a role-playing game for Xbox platforms and PS5. The project is the first full new entry in the Fable franchise since 2012 and was announced in 2020.

The title had an initial target around 2025 before the release window moved to 2026. Xbox cited a crowded 2026 holiday schedule — which includes Gears of War: E-Day, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Halo: Campaign Evolved — as a factor in shifting the launch to early 2027.

Fable’s official social account acknowledged the delay and told fans that the team expects players will be ‘playing the game before long.’ The account also confirmed that more of the game will be shown at Xbox’s planned showcase on June 7, 2026.

No new development issues or additional production timelines were disclosed in the announcement. Xbox and Playground Games listed February 2027 as the current target and said further updates will follow around the June showcase.

The June event will be the next scheduled opportunity to see additional footage and for the studio to provide a more precise release date.
