Playground Games delays Fable to February 2027
Playground Games moved Fable’s release to February 2027 to avoid crowded fall launches and to allow more time for polishing, General Manager Ralph Fulton said.
Playground Games has postponed Fable and set a new release date of February 2027. General Manager Ralph Fulton said the development team had been aiming for 2026 and felt disappointed when the schedule shifted.
Fulton acknowledged the studio had been ‘absolutely gunning for a date’ this year and that there was ‘a little bit of disappointment’ when the planned timing changed. The decision removes Fable from the October–November release window that includes a major Gears of War event in October and the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 in November.
Fulton described the February window as less crowded and said it gives the team an opportunity to ‘go out and really make a moment for ourselves’ and to win more attention for the title. He also said the later date provides additional time to prepare promotional activity around the launch.
The studio plans to use the extra months to polish the game and address remaining technical and design issues before release, with the goal of a smoother day-one launch. Fulton framed the postponement as related both to timing and to quality control.
Playground Games, known for the Forza Horizon series, is developing Fable as a reboot of the franchise created by Lionhead Studios. The studio shifted its focus to open-world action role-playing development for this project and announced the February 2027 date after reevaluating its release schedule.
