PlayStation app icon changes to Wolverine for PS5 launch
Sony pushed a worldwide PlayStation App update on iOS and Android replacing the blue icon with a Wolverine-themed image to mark Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine PS5 release.
Sony Interactive Entertainment updated the PlayStation App icon worldwide on iOS and Android on Wednesday, replacing the standard blue icon with a Wolverine-themed design to coincide with the September 15, 2026 launch of Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine on PlayStation 5.
The themed icon is delivered through an app update and appears automatically on devices that install it. Users can get the icon by updating the PlayStation App in their regional iOS or Android store.
PlayStation has used temporary app icon changes in past promotions. Those cosmetic icons have typically been available only for a limited period; users who want to keep the Wolverine icon beyond the promotion can pause automatic app updates until Sony issues another required update.
Sony previously altered the PlayStation App icon for Days of Play 2025 and applied a GTA VI-inspired color scheme when that game’s preorders opened.
Marvel’s Wolverine launched on September 15, 2026 for PS5. Early reviews gave the game a Metacritic average of 78 out of 100.
The app icon change is one visible element of the marketing activity tied to the game’s release.
