PlayStation Network outage blocks digital games for many

PlayStation Network experienced a global outage on the morning of July 24, 2026. Sony’s servers appeared to hard-crash, causing intermittent connectivity and license-validation failures that prevented many players from launching digital games that require online checks.

Players reported failed sign-ins and errors across regions. The PlayStation App and multiple console services were unable to connect to Sony’s servers. The official PlayStation Service Status page continued to report normal operations while users encountered errors.

Some services showed partial recovery during the day. The PlayStation Store and trophy syncing became available for some accounts, but core authentication systems required to verify digital licenses remained unstable for a sizable portion of users.

The outage coincided with the start of a free beta for Sony’s upcoming game Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, which opened a free play weekend ahead of an August launch. Millions of players were expected to participate; Sony had not said whether the beta period would be extended or if any compensatory measures would be offered.

Users attempting to start downloaded or digitally purchased titles reported error messages tied to license checks. Many players were limited to offline play or blocked from launching purchased games and from accessing online multiplayer while authentication failed.

Sony had not posted an official acknowledgement or an estimated restoration time at the time of reporting. PlayStation Network handles account sign-ins, digital purchases, license validation, trophy tracking and online multiplayer for millions of users worldwide.
