PlayStation Raises PS Plus Prices for New Subscribers
PlayStation will raise PS Plus prices for new subscribers to $10.99/month and $27.99/three months, effective May 20, 2026, citing ‘ongoing market conditions’.
PlayStation will raise PlayStation Plus prices for new customers to $10.99 per month and $27.99 for three months, effective May 20, 2026. The eurozone and U.K. rates were listed as €9.99/€27.99 and £7.99/£21.99, respectively. PlayStation attributed the change to ‘ongoing market conditions.’
The company said the new rates apply only to new subscribers; existing members will retain their current pricing unless they let their subscription lapse or make a change. PlayStation issued the pricing information in a brief statement and has not provided further details.
Reaction on social media was largely critical. One user wrote, ‘At some point ‘market conditions’ just becomes the industry version of ‘because we can.” Another asked, ‘How THE F— does an online service go up due to ‘ongoing market conditions’ What exactly does that mean?’
Some users contrasted the announcement with recent price reductions for a competing subscription service. Others noted PlayStation raised year-long subscription prices in mid-2025.
PlayStation has not specified which costs or market factors prompted the new rates, nor indicated whether other plans, bundled offerings or promotional pricing will change. The company has not issued a public response to the criticism.
Accounts that sign up or re-subscribe after May 20, 2026, will be charged the new monthly and three-month rates. Subscriptions that remain active will keep existing prices unless the customer cancels or changes the plan.
