PlayStation Store adds free PS5 open-world RPG Aniimo

Aniimo, a free open-world PS5 creature-catching RPG, is now available to download on the PlayStation Store and earned a 4.27/5 rating from nearly 2,000 votes in its first day.

Sony’s PlayStation Store has added Aniimo, an open-world role-playing game for PS5 that is free to download and play. The PS5 version was confirmed by the developer in March 2026 after earlier announcements for Xbox and PC. The store listing went live with a launch trailer and a download option. Within a day the page recorded nearly 2,000 user votes and an average score of 4.27 out of 5.

Aniimo is set on the continent of Idyll and features creatures called Aniimo. A core game mechanic, called Twine, allows players to take on the forms and abilities of captured Aniimo to solve puzzles, win battles and progress. According to the game’s official overview: “On your journey of adventure, you can Twine with Aniimo and essentially become any Aniimo that you collect. Use the Aniimo’s skills to solve puzzles, win battles, and overcome challenges.”

PlayStation Plus membership is not required to download or play Aniimo. PS Plus Premium members have the option to stream the title via cloud streaming. At the time the PS Store page went live, no price or in-game monetization details were listed.

The store entry includes descriptive details about the setting and mechanics and a promotional trailer to introduce the world of Idyll and the Aniimo creatures. The developer confirmed the PS5 release in March 2026; the game was previously announced for Xbox and PC.
