PS Plus Extra, Premium to roll out on staggered dates

Sony will stagger monthly PS Plus Extra and Premium releases in the US, UK and Japan; other regions get all games on the third Tuesday, prompting member confusion.

Sony announced that PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium games will be released on staggered dates in the United States, United Kingdom and Japan. Subscribers in other regions will receive the full monthly lineup on the third Tuesday of each month. Sony described the change as affecting the timing of when games become available rather than the service catalog. The company has not published a detailed public explanation for the separate timetables or confirmed when the new schedule will begin.

Players posted on social channels that the uneven rollout caused confusion and affected plans around expiring subscriptions. One member wrote, “Maybe they thought it would keep interest in the service going, but honestly, it just kills hype if the game you’re looking forward to doesn’t become available until June 30.” Another user posted, “The staggered release dates are the most anti-consumer thing of all time; if your sub is expiring, you are shortchanged.” Several players named Life Is Strange: Double Exposure as a title they intended to finish before a subscription ended but could not access on an earlier date.

Sony previously trialed staggered monthly updates in markets including Australia and Singapore more than a year ago; that trial also produced player confusion when games arrived on different dates within the same month.

The new timetable can produce up to four separate release dates in a single month when Essential updates are combined with region-specific Extra and Premium drops. That pattern creates different availability calendars across territories and can complicate decisions tied to renewals or planned playtime.

Sony has not provided a full rationale for the staggered timing and has not confirmed whether the arrangement will be permanent. Subscribers have requested clearer communication and a single global release day to avoid further confusion.
