PS1 Mecha Shooter Geppy-X PS5 Remaster Hits PlayStation Store

The HD remaster of Geppy-X is available on the PlayStation Store for PlayStation 5 as of July 16, 2026. The standard price on PlayStation is $39.99; PlayStation Plus members can buy it for $35.99, a 10 percent discount.

The remaster launched July 16 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC. This release is the first official availability of Geppy-X outside Japan since the original 1999 debut.

Geppy-X is a 2D side-scrolling shooter designed to recreate the look and broadcast structure of 1970s super robot anime. The game features a real-time transforming mech system, three distinct combat styles and a mid-game mech evolution that alters how players approach encounters.

The remaster restores the game’s animated sequences. Developers scanned original master tapes and recovered more than 8,000 hand-drawn frames. In-game videos run at the original 24 frames per second.

Engineers applied modern upscaling and image-restoration techniques to improve clarity on contemporary displays while keeping the original game systems intact. The publisher has set comparable price points for the versions on other platforms.

The release preserves the title’s broadcast-style presentation, including opening themes, episode-style segments and simulated commercial breaks. The remaster retains songs from several anime artists that were part of the original game’s soundtrack.
