PS3 store closure spurs list of games with PS4/PS5 cross-buy

Players are compiling lists of PS3 digital titles that offer PS4 and PS5 access ahead of the PlayStation Store closure for PS3 and PS Vita, scheduled in all regions by July 2027.

The lists identify two groups of legacy content: PS1 and PSP classics that can be downloaded on PS4 and PS5 once purchased, and digital PS3 releases that include PS4 cross-buy (playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility) or provide free upgrades to modern consoles.

Users are sharing these inventories in online forums and community threads. They report that having a PS4 or PS5-compatible version tied to an account is the primary way to preserve access once the older storefronts close.

Community members caution that individual games can be removed from sale before the full shutdown date, which could prevent late purchases of specific titles.

Sony wrote in a statement: “As the PlayStation Store continues to evolve to support modern commerce systems, including updated payment processing standards, PS3 and PS Vita are no longer able to support these updates at the level required. We know this news may be disappointing to PS3 and PS Vita players who hold a special place in their hearts for this generation of gaming. PS3 and PS Vita represent an important era in our PlayStation history, so this was not an easy decision for us to make.” Sony added that the store transition is needed to meet updated security and payment requirements.

Sony has said purchased content that is supported on newer systems should remain available to download on PS4 and PS5 when cross-buy or upgrades apply. Players consulting the shared lists are using them to prioritize purchases while affected titles remain on sale.
