PS5 adds animated The Last of Us Welcome Hub background

Sony Interactive Entertainment released a September 2026 PS5 feature update that adds an animated Welcome Hub background themed on Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 1 and Part 2. The artwork links Ellie’s younger and older appearances and places Joel and Abby in the scene, with a short thunder animation layered over the image.

The new background appears in the PS5 Welcome Hub under Backgrounds > Games. Because it was newly added, it should appear as the first entry in the list for consoles that have received the update.

Sony applied the background through a backend update that will roll out automatically to consoles in all regions over time. Users who prefer not to wait can trigger a manual system feature update from the PS5 home screen: open the Settings cog next to the profile thumbnail, choose System, select System Feature Updates and wait for the process to complete. After the system update finishes, the Welcome Hub background should be visible if the backend rollout has reached that console.

The change affects only the Welcome Hub background and does not alter other system themes or in-game menus. The Last of Us series is developed by Naughty Dog and the new artwork brings franchise imagery into the console interface for players who have access to the update.
