PS5 adds free historical adventure with fast trophy unlocks

The Light in the Darkness: The Director’s Cut is free on the PlayStation Store for PS5 and offers quick trophy unlocks in a single-player story set in Nazi-occupied France.

The Light in the Darkness: The Director’s Cut is available free on the PlayStation Store for PS5. Players can earn trophies and in-game achievements relatively quickly. The single-player adventure follows a Polish-Jewish family living in Nazi-occupied France and centers on daily life under occupation.

Arcade Distillery is publishing the Director’s Cut, which was developed by Voices of the Forgotten, a nonprofit organization led by French-Jewish designer Luc Bernard. The nonprofit develops digital projects that address Holocaust memory and Jewish history.

The Director’s Cut adds voice acting, extended narrative material, refined systems, new animations and additional atmospheric detail. The edition also includes a historically grounded reconstruction of Auschwitz and other elements intended to expand the original release.

The game is presented as an interactive narrative rather than a standard branching title. According to the game’s description, gameplay focuses on small, day-to-day decisions and a limited number of dialogue choices. The title does not offer a conventional win condition or multiple endings.

Player ratings reflect mixed responses. Based on more than 4,000 reviews, the game has an average rating of about 3.45 out of 5. Reviewers and user comments have cited the story and soundtrack as strengths, and many players noted the relative ease of unlocking trophies.

Both the original release and the Director’s Cut are available to download free on the PlayStation Store for PS5.
