PS5 rhythm game Mr. Records mixes shopkeeping and music

Wired Productions and Glee-Cheese announced Mr. Records, a PS5 title that pairs record-shop management with arcade rhythm levels inspired by Nintendo 3DS game HarmoKnight; a PC demo is planned.

Wired Productions and indie developer Glee-Cheese announced Mr. Records, a PlayStation 5 adventure that combines daytime record-shop management with arcade-style rhythm gameplay. The game is also in development for PC, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. A playable PC demo is planned ahead of Steam Next Fest, and PlayStation users can add the game to their wishlists. No release date has been given.

Players take control of George, a record shop owner who can “transcend through music.” Daytime sections focus on shop tasks such as interacting with customers, selling vinyl, unlocking new stock and finding photos and items that reveal George’s past.

At night the gameplay shifts into music-driven dream worlds where each record becomes a level with psychedelic visuals and rhythm-based challenges. Levels include rhythm battles, chase sequences and other arcade-style mini-games. The developer reported the game contains more than 40 levels and a soundtrack of 49 original songs covering several musical styles.

George is accompanied by his dog, Buzz, and each record-level is designed to reveal aspects of his memories and regrets. A trailer released by the publisher shows the game alternating between shopkeeping and rhythm action, with multiple traversal options in the musical levels that require timing inputs to the beat.

The developers cited the Nintendo 3DS exclusive HarmoKnight as an influence on the rhythm sections. Wired Productions and Glee-Cheese have not provided a firm launch window or specific dates for the demo or full release.
