PS5 Pro beta flips on enhanced PSSR image quality

Sony has begun sending email invites for an August 6, 2026 PS5 system software beta. The update mainly targets PS5 Pro consoles and enables the Enhance PSSR Image Quality option by default on Pro systems. Base PS5 models receive smaller performance and stability improvements.

When testers install the beta, Enhance PSSR Image Quality turns on automatically. Sony’s patch notes state the setting forces the enhanced PSSR pipeline even for games that supported the previous PSSR version, to produce a sharper image on PS5 Pro hardware. The option appears only on PS5 Pro models and can be turned off at Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality.

The beta also changes a Bluetooth behavior intended for competitive venues. If users select Turn Off Bluetooth at Settings > Accessories > General > Advanced Settings, the console can no longer enter rest mode and HDMI link functions are disabled. Sony describes Turn Off Bluetooth as a tool for managing controller connections at esports events and warns against using it for other purposes.

The update includes general system software performance and stability improvements. Sony has not announced a public release date for the stable firmware and says it will notify users if and when the beta changes are promoted out of testing.
