PS5 Pro shortages to persist through early 2027
Sony told distributors PS5 Pro shortages caused by “temporary market supply constraints and high demand” will continue through early 2027, affecting holiday 2026 and GTA VI’s November launch.
Sony told distribution partners in a memo that PS5 Pro shortages caused by “temporary market supply constraints and high demand” are expected to continue “through early 2027 at the earliest.” The company warned that stock levels are unlikely to return to normal before that period, which would affect the 2026 holiday season and the November 2026 launch of Grand Theft Auto VI.
Retailers and Sony’s online storefront, PS Direct, have posted irregular inventory drops in recent months. Customers report that online restocks often sell out within minutes and the console has been sporadically unavailable at major retail chains.
The memo attributed limited inventory to production and distribution bottlenecks combined with strong consumer demand. It did not include shipment schedules or unit counts, leaving retailers without firm timelines for regular replenishment.
Analysts expect some replenishments between now and early 2027 but forecast continued tight supply. Sony and Rockstar have promoted the PS5 Pro as the “best place to play” Grand Theft Auto VI, a position used in marketing materials for the upcoming title.
When units appear for sale they have tended to sell quickly, and retailers have not received firm guidance on when consistent inventory will return.
