PS5 Remake of Star Ocean Cuts to $24.99 on PS Store
Star Ocean: The Second Story R is half price on the PlayStation Store at $24.99 through Aug. 13; purchase includes PS5/PS4 cross-buy and a free demo.
Square Enix’s 2023 PS5 remake, Star Ocean: The Second Story R, is discounted to $24.99 on the PlayStation Store through Aug. 13. The price is reduced from $49.99. The sale includes cross-buy access to both PS5 and PS4 versions.
The single-player action RPG updates the 1990s PlayStation title and follows an earlier enhanced remaster, Second Evolution. The 2023 release is the series’ third re-release of the game.
A free demo is available on both PS5 and PS4. The game does not require a PlayStation Plus subscription to play, though PlayStation Plus Premium members can stream it via cloud play.
The remake uses a 2.5D visual style and adds new gameplay elements. The PlayStation Store describes the plot as: “Two worlds, one fateful encounter. In an endless sea of stars, at the edge of the universe, two people who live in different worlds go on a journey to save planet Expel. Choose your path and witness an awakened destiny.”
The store listing lists updates including new battle mechanics, full Japanese and English voice-overs, original and rearranged music, and fast-travel. Cross-buy support means a single purchase grants both console versions.
The sale runs through Aug. 13, after which the title returns to its usual $49.99 price on the PlayStation Store. The promotion is the lowest price recorded for this edition on the store during the discount period.
