PS5 Remake of The 7th Guest Arrives; VR Edition Free

The 7th Guest PS5 remake is on the PlayStation Store for $19.99; buyers receive The 7th Guest VR free and current VR owners can download the PS5 remake at no extra cost.

The 7th Guest remake for PlayStation 5 is available now on the PlayStation Store for $19.99. Purchasers of the PS5 version can download The 7th Guest VR at no additional cost, and owners of the existing VR release can download the PS5 remake for free.

The remake was developed by Vertigo Games and Exkee. It reimagines the 1993 puzzle-adventure by updating presentation and technical elements for modern hardware.

The developers describe the game’s premise as: “Six guests have been welcomed to a foreboding mansion, but something sinister is at play. The wealthy recluse and toymaker Henry Stauf lurks in the shadows, and a dark power hangs over the house, shrouded in mystery. Who is the seventh guest? What does Henry want with them? And who will live to tell the tale?” Players explore the mansion and solve puzzles to uncover the story.

The remake uses newly recorded volumetric video that places actors’ performances in three-dimensional space inside the game environment. The developers state the technique creates more lifelike character visuals while keeping the original’s puzzle-focused gameplay.

The title has been released in several versions since 1993, including a prior virtual reality adaptation for PS VR. The original 1993 release was among the early games distributed only on CD-ROM.

The PS5 remake is sold through the PlayStation Store and is available now for PlayStation 5.
