PS5 sci-fi adventure Ontos delayed to 2027

Frictional Games and publisher Kepler Interactive have pushed the release of Ontos from 2026 into 2027. The delay covers PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC; the studio did not specify a quarter for the new launch window.

Frictional said the extra time will allow the team to complete the project at the scale it intends. In a statement the studio wrote: “Ontos is our most ambitious game to date, both in terms of its size and scale, and in the depth and layers of our story and gameplay. In order to deliver this vision, we have decided to push the release of Ontos to 2027. We look forward to sharing more updates about Ontos, our characters, and our world soon.”

The title was showcased with a trailer at The Game Awards 2025 and had been scheduled for 2026 prior to the postponement. Frictional and Kepler stated they will provide further information about the game, its characters and its world in the months ahead.

Ontos places players in the role of Aditi Amani, who is invited to a repurposed moon hotel called Samsara by the legacy of her estranged father. The developer describes the story as beginning as a search for answers that “quickly spirals into something far stranger,” with reality fracturing and truths concealed beneath layers of deception and obscurity.

Frictional is the studio behind the 2015 sci‑fi horror SOMA. Kepler Interactive publishes mid‑to‑large independent projects. Both companies attributed the delay to development needs rather than technical or platform issues and did not announce a new release date.
