PS5 September 2026 Update Enables Enhance PSSR on PS5 Pro

Sony has released the September 2026 PlayStation 5 system update, firmware version 26.06-14.00.00. The stable build follows a beta test from last month and is available to PS5 and PS5 Pro owners worldwide. The release includes image-quality changes for PS5 Pro, new voice chat and community features, and adjustments to Bluetooth and rest-mode behavior.

On PS5 Pro consoles the update turns on Enhance PSSR Image Quality automatically. With the setting enabled, the enhanced PSSR implementation is applied even for games that previously used the older PSSR version. Users who prefer the earlier behavior can disable the feature at Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality. The setting is available only on PS5 Pro hardware.

The update adds a visible speaker indicator for voice chat. To show the indicator, open the voice chat card in the control center, select More > Display Who’s Speaking, and enable Display Names. A Position option lets players choose where the speaker indicator appears on the screen.

A Community Activity widget has been added to the Welcome Hub to make it easier to find multiplayer sessions. The widget offers two views. Trending Now lists ten multiplayer games or modes currently surging in popularity, highlighting recent releases or major content updates. Top 10 shows the ten most-played games in the past week for a player’s country or region.

The release notes also describe changes to Bluetooth and rest-mode interactions. In certain regions some PS5 consoles will not enter rest mode under the new behavior. HDMI Device Link will not work if the Turn Off Bluetooth option is enabled at Settings > Accessories > General > Advanced Settings. The release notes state that Turn Off Bluetooth is intended for managing controller connections at esports venues and similar locations and advise against using it for other purposes.

Sony lists general system software performance and stability improvements in the update notes and recommends installing the firmware to receive the fixes and features included in 26.06-14.00.00.

The update consolidates features tested in last month’s beta and applies PS5 Pro-specific image changes by default while adding visible controls for voice chat and new tools for discovering active multiplayer communities.
