PS5 Shooter Blindfire Free on PlayStation Store
Blindfire, a 2024 PS5 action shooter from Double Eleven, is now free to download on the PlayStation Store; the developer released a final update and will keep servers online indefinitely.
Double Eleven has made Blindfire free to download on the PlayStation Store for PS5, issued a final update and pledged to keep the game’s servers online indefinitely. The studio framed the removal of the price as a gift so more players can access the title.
Blindfire entered early access in 2024 and struggled to attract a steady player base. The neon-lit action shooter is built around a core mechanic in which much of the environment remains dark, requiring players to use light and tactics to locate and defeat enemies.
Rather than retire the game or take servers offline, Double Eleven released what it described as a last update and removed the purchase requirement on the PlayStation Store. The developer also published a final trailer to accompany the patch.
Double Eleven said it will not run advertising campaigns to drive players back and has not announced further paid content or long-term updates beyond the final patch. The company framed the free release as a way to preserve the project and allow newcomers and existing players to try it without cost.
In a statement, Double Eleven wrote: “We are doing this because we believe games are art and they deserve to be preserved. We refuse to bury what we built just because things didn’t go perfectly. We are keeping it alive because we are proud of it. You won’t see adverts or marketing campaigns trying to drag you back in. This is just a gift to those who want to see what we created.”
Players can claim Blindfire at no cost from the PlayStation Store on PS5. The developer said servers will remain online “indefinitely.”
