Quantic Dream Cancels Spellcasters Chronicles After Steam Debut

Quantic Dream has canceled free-to-play 3v3 game Spellcasters Chronicles after Early Access peaked at 888 Steam players. Servers will close June 19; buyers can request refunds.

Quantic Dream has canceled Spellcasters Chronicles, a free-to-play 3v3 live-service game, after a short Early Access run on Steam. The developer confirmed servers will remain online until June 19 and that players who purchased in-game content can request refunds.

The studio announced the decision less than three months after the title entered Early Access, saying it had not “reached the audience needed to ensure its long-term sustainability” and citing a “particularly challenging market environment” for online games.

Steam concurrent player data showed Spellcasters Chronicles reached a peak of 888 players shortly after launch and fell below 100 within weeks. At the time of the studio’s announcement, 23 players were logged in.

Quantic Dream said customers who bought in-game items are eligible for refunds but must file a request to receive one. The company did not publish details on how refunds will be processed beyond that requirement.

The developer also announced it will “undertake an internal reorganisation.” No specifics were provided on staffing or budget changes. The company stated the reorganisation will not affect work on its long‑anticipated project Star Wars Eclipse.

Quantic Dream is known for single-player narrative titles including Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human. Since separating from Sony, the studio has expanded into online and live-service projects, with Spellcasters Chronicles representing its entry into the competitive free-to-play shooter space.

Spellcasters Chronicles launched into a crowded market of online competitive games. With concurrent users declining rapidly during Early Access, the studio moved to end public operations, close servers on June 19 and offer refunds to paying players.
