Realm of Ink launches May 26 on Xbox; BlazBlue boss joins
Realm of Ink leaves Early Access and launches May 26 on Xbox Series X|S with Xbox Play Anywhere. A BlazBlue Entropy Effect crossover introduces boss Oread, a new ink gem, two pet skins and perks.
Realm of Ink exits Early Access and arrives on Xbox Series X|S on May 26, with Xbox Play Anywhere support. The launch includes crossover content from BlazBlue Entropy Effect that adds the stage-four boss Oread along with a dedicated ink gem, two exclusive ink pet skins and several new perks.
Developer 4Divinity describes the game as an action roguelite built around deep build customization and procedurally varied runs. The title uses a visual style inspired by traditional Chinese ink painting while aiming to support fast-paced combat through dynamic effects.
Players start as Red, a swordswoman who discovers she is a character trapped on a page inside the Ink Realm. Runs send players through increasingly dangerous areas. After a death, players return to the Inn, a persistent hub where currency can be spent, NPCs can be met, abilities upgraded and additional character modes unlocked for future attempts.
Character modes change weapons, combat style and skills rather than serving as simple cosmetic variants. The game offers multiple modes that alter how a run plays. Players collect ink gems that change Red’s abilities and modify the behavior and form of a companion ink pet named Momo. Swapping gems changes Momo’s form and grants new powers.
Realm of Ink includes over 50 named ink gems and more than 200 artifacts and perks that alter base stats and add unique effects. Some artifacts are designed to pair with specific ink gems to create synergies. After each encounter, players choose branching paths that offer currency, power-ups or artifacts to shape their next decisions and builds.
The BlazBlue crossover content arrives at launch and makes Oread unlockable on all platforms, including Xbox Series X|S. Oread comes with an ink gem, two pet skins and a set of perks intended to match her combat style, giving players additional options for combining crossover elements with existing builds.
The game draws narrative and aesthetic inspiration from Chinese literature, including Liaozhai Zhiyi (Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio). Story chapters focus on different characters and themes related to fate and agency. Visual development combined ink art techniques with effects intended to maintain clarity during combat.
During Early Access, player feedback influenced balance, visual presentation and unlock systems. The developer noted that some players refined single builds across many runs while others mixed gems, characters and routes to experiment. Realm of Ink will be available on Xbox Series X|S starting May 26, with purchases carrying across console and PC on Microsoft platforms through Xbox Play Anywhere.
