Summer Eternal, a studio founded by former members of the Disco Elysium development team, is making Red Rooster, a physics-driven role-playing game planned for PC before its release on consoles, including PlayStation 5. The game has no announced release date or gameplay trailer.
Red Rooster follows Redrick Roost, a white-collar inmate assigned to investigate a series of fires. He works with an opiate-dependent mathematician while examining links between the arson attacks and his brother, the city’s fire chief.
The game takes place in Arta-Tantor, a three-part city spread across a fractalized border archipelago. Its story is set in a political alternate history with science-fiction elements and a magical-realism style.
Summer Eternal describes Red Rooster’s setting as a fictional world influenced by the 1980s Yugoslavian Riviera, the Eastern Bloc, Ottoman culture, Scandinavian social democracies and the colonial Dutch Empire. The studio has cited Larian Studios’ Divinity series as an influence on the game’s role-playing systems.
The developer describes Red Rooster as an “incendiary, physics-driven RPG.” Its systems are intended to support investigation and role-playing in a setting close to the real world. Details about the game’s mechanics, release date and console versions have not been announced.
Summer Eternal was established by former members of the team behind Disco Elysium, the 2019 role-playing game developed by ZA/UM. Red Rooster is the studio’s announced project and is planned to launch on PC before consoles.
