Report: Horizon 3 Delayed, Team Scaled Back

A report states the next mainline Horizon game is not close to release. Only a “tiny team” at Guerrilla Games is currently focused on Horizon 3, and work has slowed as the studio redirects resources.

After Horizon Forbidden West, the majority of Guerrilla Games staff moved to a multiplayer project, Horizon Hunters Gathering. That project did not meet internal expectations and is being rebooted; live-service elements are being removed in favor of a traditional cooperative multiplayer mode and a story-driven component, narrowing the project’s scope.

The multiplayer effort remains in development but has been given a deadline. Developers were told they have until December to “impress executives with their next milestone.” If the team does not meet that milestone, leadership may change the project’s plans.

As staff shifted to the multiplayer title and the reboot took place, progress on Horizon 3 slowed. The mainline game continues to exist at the studio but with only a small group working on it while other resources are allocated elsewhere.

The report notes Horizon 3 will not ship on physical discs. That detail indicates the title may be released only in digital form and could arrive on PlayStation 6 rather than current or upcoming PlayStation hardware.

Guerrilla Games developed Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, both published as PlayStation exclusives. Representatives for the studio and publisher did not provide comment for the report.
