Retro Fighters has released the Battle Dock for Nintendo Switch 2, a $40 accessory that adds four wired GameCube controller ports and supports wireless GameCube-style pads such as the Wavebird and Retro Fighters’ BattlerGC. The unit includes four magnetic faceplates in GameCube console colors and connects to the Switch 2 dock via two USB-A plugs and one USB-C plug.
The Battle Dock is designed to sit around the Switch 2 dock rather than replace it. The Switch 2 dock fits into a shelf on the Battle Dock and links using the bundled cable. The accessory can also operate with the original Switch dock through the same USB connection, though the older dock does not slot into the Battle Dock’s shell.
The front of the Battle Dock exposes four GameCube controller ports for original wired controllers and compatible wireless adapters. The box contains snap-on faceplates in Jet Black, Spice Orange, Indigo and Platinum Silver. The faceplates attach with magnets and can be removed or swapped by hand; they may come off if bumped.
Using wired GameCube controllers requires users to manage cable length and positioning. Players may need to move the dock or sit closer to the display than with wireless pads. GameCube controllers lack Home and Minus buttons, so a Joy-Con or Pro Controller is required to access the Switch 2 Home screen and system menus.
Setup is plug-and-play and requires the bundled cable and the dock connection to the Switch 2. The Battle Dock provides a wired connection intended to reduce input latency compared with wireless options. The accessory is functionally similar to Nintendo’s official GameCube controller adapter, which was released for the Wii U and later supported on Switch systems but is no longer in production.
At a $40 price point, the Battle Dock allows owners of wired GameCube controllers to connect them to Switch hardware without buying new controllers. The product may be used for games that favour the GameCube controller layout and for any future GameCube-era titles added to Nintendo Switch Online.
