Rockstar: GTA VI is single-player; GTA Online will continue

At Take-Two’s annual shareholder meeting, Rockstar reiterated “GTA VI is a single-player title” and offered no timeline for a multiplayer mode. Take-Two added, “We will continue to support GTA Online after GTA VI release and beyond.”

The company’s wording does not clarify whether GTA VI will receive a dedicated online component or whether any online work remains unannounced. Prior reports indicate a multiplayer version is in development, but Rockstar has not described how it will function or when it might arrive.

GTA Online launched after Grand Theft Auto V in 2013 and has received regular updates, including new game modes, heists and features that let players build criminal enterprises and play cooperatively or competitively. A content creation tool now lets players design custom missions and game modes.

Take-Two chief executive Strauss Zelnick has indicated a successor to GTA Online would not replace the original. Rockstar’s comments align with that position by committing ongoing updates for GTA Online through and beyond GTA VI’s launch window.

Rockstar has begun marketing GTA VI with announcements including a companion soundtrack, limited-edition PlayStation 5 controllers and an extended gameplay presentation released on a streaming platform and YouTube. GTA VI is available for digital pre-order on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and is scheduled for global release on November 19, 2026.
