Sanitarium Enhanced coming to PlayStation 5 and modern consoles

Ziggurat Interactive and QUByte announced Sanitarium Enhanced, a modernized edition of the 1998 point-and-click horror adventure Sanitarium. The update is scheduled to arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and on PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG by the end of 2026. No firm release date, platform-specific windows or pricing have been provided.

Sanitarium was developed by DreamForge Intertainment and first released for Windows in 1998. Players begin the game disfigured and amnesiac in a decaying asylum and must escape a cell and move through linked nightmare chapters to recover their identity. Settings include a village of malformed children, a town with insect-like mutations and a grotesque circus. The game relies on point-and-click puzzles and exploration.

Sanitarium Enhanced adds widescreen resolution support, full controller compatibility and Steam Deck optimizations. The update includes an optional hint mode to locate interactable objects, optional movement and speed toggles, and fixes for legacy bugs present in the original release. The publishers released an announcement trailer to preview the updated edition.

The enhanced package includes a gallery with bonus material contributed by members of the original development team that was not previously released. The original Sanitarium was named Adventure Game of the Year in 1999 and was ported to iOS and Android in 2015.
