Scalpers resell Target Pokémon Pop-Tarts at steep markups
Resellers list Target-exclusive Pokémon Pop-Tarts, sold for under $3 per box, on eBay for more than $10, with some listings at $34.99.
Resellers are listing Target-exclusive Pokémon Pop-Tarts on auction and buy-it-now pages with prices above $10 and some listings at $34.99. The product retails at just under $3 per box. The Target release arrived over the recent weekend and includes an exclusive Pikachu-themed box containing six two-pack wrapped pastries in a Frosted Vanilla flavor.
Online marketplace listings show multiple sellers offering the Pop-Tarts at markups well above the retail price. Some listings display the price before shipping. Other pieces from the Target-exclusive collection, including apparel and accessories, also appear on secondary sites at higher prices. Several sellers have posted jackets priced at about $249.95, which shoppers report is roughly double the in-store price. Many items were already out of stock in stores and on Target’s website.
Buyers and collectors have posted requests online for earlier Pokémon cereal and Pop-Tarts collaborations from the late 1990s and early 2000s, when tie-ins included themed sprinkles, a Wild Cherry flavor and promotional minifigures. Current resale listings reflect demand tied to that nostalgia and collector interest.
Target confirmed a second drop of the collection is planned later in the year; the company described that release as another opportunity to purchase the items at retail. Until the next release, shoppers can search local Target stores, pay asking prices on resale sites or wait for the restock.
Limited retail runs of entertainment-branded products have frequently sold out quickly and then reappeared on secondary marketplaces at higher prices. Availability and prices for the Target-exclusive Pokémon Pop-Tarts are likely to vary until additional inventory reaches stores and Target’s website.
