Scuf Omega PS5 Controller Uses Hall-Effect Sticks, $219.99

Scuf Omega for PS5 uses hall-effect thumbsticks to limit stick drift. Available now for $219.99, it adds programmable paddles and a mobile app but omits PS5 haptics and adaptive triggers.

Scuf released the Omega, a premium controller for PlayStation 5, and made it available for purchase immediately at $219.99 in the U.S., £209.99 in the U.K. and €239.99 in parts of Europe. The controller uses hall-effect thumbsticks to reduce the risk of stick drift and includes multiple programmable inputs and a companion mobile app, while removing the PS5’s haptic motors and adaptive-trigger mechanisms.

Hall-effect sensors detect thumbstick position with magnets and magnetic sensors instead of relying on physical electrical contacts. Because the sensors do not depend on moving contact points, the analog modules experience less wear compared with potentiometer-style sticks, which can help prolong their operational life.

The Omega provides 11 programmable inputs, including four rear paddles, two side buttons and five buttons between the grips. A mobile app allows users to create and save button mapping profiles. Scuf equipped the face and trigger buttons with mechanical switches similar to those used in gaming mice to deliver consistent actuation.

To accommodate the different hardware, Scuf removed the PS5’s haptic vibration motors and adaptive trigger hardware from the Omega. Games that use adaptive trigger resistance or the DualSense’s detailed haptic feedback will not reproduce those effects on this controller.

Scuf positions the Omega for players who log long play sessions or compete in esports and want more physical controls and a stick design that may resist drift. The controller’s price places it alongside other high-end third-party pads and close to first-party premium options.

Stick drift occurs when thumbsticks register movement without user input, typically after months or years of regular use as internal parts wear. By using hall-effect thumbsticks, Scuf reduces dependence on moving electrical contacts that can degrade and cause drift.
