Sea of Stars: Sunset Edition launches on Switch 2; free upgrade

Sea of Stars: Sunset Edition arrives today on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop as the final update, offering a free upgrade and save transfers for Switch owners plus a new cutscene, balance tweaks and GameShare.

Sabotage Studio released Sea of Stars: Sunset Edition on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop today as the final update for the 2023 role-playing game. Owners of the original Switch release receive the Sunset Edition at no extra cost, and save files can be transferred from the Switch version to the Switch 2 release.

The Sunset Edition adds a new opening cutscene featuring the earlier Solstice Warriors. It includes balance adjustments aimed at Normal and Hard difficulty settings, new promotional key art by illustrator Bryce Kho, and GameShare support on Switch 2 that allows up to three players to join local cooperative sessions without each owning a copy.

Sabotage described the update as a farewell to the project it developed over seven years. The Switch 2 port is available now on the eShop.

In addition to the digital release, Sabotage is producing a Collector’s Sunset Edition physical release with iam8bit, scheduled to ship later this year.

Sea of Stars originally launched in 2023. The game features turn-based combat inspired by classic role-playing titles and hand-crafted pixel art.

Sabotage has indicated it is working on a new title, currently referred to as Project Sparrow.
