Sega Cancels ‘Super Game,’ Scales Back Live-Service Focus

Sega canceled its planned ‘Super Game’ and will reduce games-as-a-service development while pursuing reboots of Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio and other dormant series.

Sega canceled its planned “Super Game” and said it will scale back development of games-as-a-service, the Japanese publisher disclosed in its latest financial report and accompanying investor presentation.

The Super Game had been in the planning stages and was described internally as a large-scale, high-budget title. Sega provided no cost estimates or write-downs tied to the cancellation in the presentation.

Alongside the cancellation, Sega outlined a reduced emphasis on live-service projects-titles that receive ongoing content updates and monetization-and plans to reallocate development resources to other projects.

The company named dormant series under consideration for revival, including Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio and Nights into Dreams. Sega indicated Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio were linked to earlier planning but remain in active development.

The presentation did not include firm launch dates for the affected projects and offered no specific financial figures related to the strategic shift. Sega presented the changes to investors as part of a broader portfolio strategy that adjusts development priorities.

Sega noted the resource demands of long-running live-service games as a factor in the decision to reduce that emphasis and focus more on reviving legacy intellectual property and other non-continuous projects.
