Sega’s Crazy Taxi PS5 reboot adds Japan map

Crazy Taxi: World Tour will include a Japan map for the first time, the third of five cities in its single-player World Tour campaign.

Sega confirmed that Crazy Taxi: World Tour will add a Japan map to its single-player World Tour campaign, marking the third of five cities in the PS5 reboot’s global lineup. The Japan stage will be the series’ first map set in the country.

The company plans to release Crazy Taxi: World Tour in 2027 for PlayStation 5, with versions also scheduled for Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. The title will feature a story-driven World Tour campaign, traditional arcade modes and the franchise’s first multiplayer option; details on multiplayer formats and player counts have not been released.

The game’s reveal trailer describes the Japan map as, “A place beautifully suspended between two worlds. Here, historic neighborhoods and tradition sit alongside the bustling energy of the modern city.” Sega said players will race through a modern metropolis next to older districts, run along expressways between skyscrapers and pass recognizable shops including ICHIRAN, Kani Doraku and SHIBUYA109.

Gameplay in World Tour retains Crazy Taxi’s high-speed taxi action. Players will perform drifts, catch air and reach high speeds while completing jobs that include delivering passengers and meeting mission objectives. Levels will combine timed pick-ups with other tasks and optional side challenges.

The single-player campaign centers on recovering Axel’s stolen car from an international ring of car thieves. The story will send players across diverse terrain, introduce new characters and present a range of quests beyond the main objective.

Crazy Taxi originated as an arcade and Dreamcast title in 1999. Sega lists updated visuals, expanded mission variety and cross-platform availability among the World Tour reboot’s features while keeping the core focus on fast, timed passenger deliveries.
