Sega issues DMCA over alleged Persona 6 images
SEGA or an agent issued DMCA takedowns for social posts sharing alleged Persona 6 images ahead of Summer Game Fest and the Xbox Game Showcase.
SEGA, or a company acting on its behalf, issued DMCA takedown notices to social media users who posted images said to be from Persona 6. Users reported receiving copyright removal requests on platforms including X in recent days.
The notices arrived in the days before Summer Game Fest, scheduled for tomorrow, and the Xbox Game Showcase on Sunday. Both events are scheduled to feature industry presentations where new games are frequently shown.
One X user, Dkmariolink, posted about receiving a notice and wrote, “Got a DMCA takedown request by Sega. Not posting it again, but if you know, you know.” Affected users described the actions as copyright removal requests rather than criminal complaints.
Persona is a role-playing series developed by Atlus, which is part of the SEGA group. Fans have been awaiting news of a follow-up to the previous main entry. SEGA or an agent seeking removal of the images is an assertion of copyright over the material; SEGA has not publicly confirmed whether the images are genuine.
Rights holders use DMCA notices to ask platforms to remove content they believe infringes copyright. The notices in this case were reported directly by the users who received them. SEGA was contacted for comment and has not issued a public response.
An official announcement or trailer at the scheduled showcases would confirm any new Persona title and replace the material that was removed.
