Sega’s PS5 Yakuza Origin Stranger Than Heaven Arrives Winter 2026

Sega announced Stranger Than Heaven, developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, as a PS5 action-adventure and a Yakuza origin story spanning 1915–1965. The company set a Winter 2026 release window and published a new trailer but did not provide a specific day or month.

Sega provided a plot synopsis: “San Francisco, 1915. Our story begins as a young boy sneaks aboard a mysterious ship in the dead of night. His name? Makoto Daito. After losing both of his parents and finding himself completely alone, Makoto, in an act of desperation, decides to risk it all and travel to his mother’s birthplace. If the United States won’t accept him for who he is, maybe Japan will…” Sega indicated those events set the stage for a narrative that follows the character over five decades.

The announced cast combines international and Japanese performers. Snoop Dogg is credited as Orpheus, Cordell Broadus appears as The Veiled Stranger, and Tori Kelly plays Suzy Day. Yu Shirota voices protagonist Makoto Daito, with Moeka Hoshi as Tae Matsumoto, Akio Otsuka as Heigo Yashima, Tokuma Nishioka as Kiyoshi Otsuru, Satoshi Fujihara as Takashi, and Ado as Keiko Shirai. The game includes the likeness of the late actor Bunta Sugawara for the character Genzo Iwaki; Sugawara’s family granted permission for the studio to use his image and the character is voiced by Takashi Ukaji.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the developer behind the Yakuza series, framed Stranger Than Heaven as an origin tale tracing the series’ roots across five decades. The announcement emphasized setting, cast and the time-spanning premise and did not outline gameplay systems. Sega listed the project for PS5 and did not specify other platforms, regional release plans or pricing.

The trailer offers visual previews of the game’s period settings and characters. Sega has not announced a firm launch date or pricing.
