Sega shares Sonic Adventure concept art for 35th anniversary - ps5.news

Sega posted early concept sketches from the original Sonic Adventure to the franchise’s official social channels as part of Sonic’s 35th anniversary.

Sega uploaded early concept sketches and artwork from its archives to the official Sonic social accounts this week as part of Sonic’s 35th anniversary content. The posts were presented as archival material rather than announcements for new games.

The shared images include sketches of zones and character designs tied to the original Dreamcast release and the later Sonic Adventure DX edition for GameCube, released in 2003. The artwork shows early versions of environments and character faces that appear in the finished games.

Sonic Adventure, released on Dreamcast in 1998 and reissued as Sonic Adventure DX for GameCube in 2003, marked the series’ transition to three-dimensional gameplay. Sega positioned the archive release as a look back at the title’s development history.

Roger Craig Smith, the actor who voices Sonic in recent video games, wrote that there is “exciting stuff” planned for the anniversary and referenced a June birthday event. Sega also confirmed that the fourth Sonic film, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, will open in cinemas on March 19, 2027.

Fans responded to the archive posts by comparing the concept sketches with the final in-game visuals from the Dreamcast and DX releases and revisiting the series’ early 3D entries.
