Shift Up to Self-Publish Stellar Blade 2, Reveal in 2026
Shift Up will reveal Stellar Blade 2 in 2026 and will self-publish the sequel to reach a global audience, suggesting it may not be a PS5 exclusive.
Shift Up confirmed in an earnings presentation that it will reveal Stellar Blade 2 in 2026 and will self-publish the sequel. The studio said self-publishing will allow the game to reach “a global audience” on day one and let marketing reflect the franchise’s “distinct identity.”
The company told investors it is now able to publish its own titles and wants control over marketing and release strategy. Stellar Blade launched in 2024 as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive published by Sony Interactive Entertainment; the studio’s statement suggests the sequel may not be a Sony-published PS5 exclusive and could appear on multiple platforms at release.
No specific release date for the sequel was provided beyond the planned 2026 reveal, and Shift Up did not name target platforms. The presentation highlighted the benefits of publishing in-house, including direct control of messaging and the ability to coordinate a worldwide launch.
When Stellar Blade arrived in 2024 it was commercially successful for both Shift Up and Sony and built a large player base. The game also prompted debate over the portrayal of its female lead and the way it was marketed.
Shift Up did not provide details on the size or timing of any marketing campaigns or on distribution partners. The studio intends to shape promotional campaigns to match the series’ tone and fan expectations.
