Shift Up to Self-Publish Stellar Blade Sequel, Eyes Platforms

Shift Up will self-publish the next Stellar Blade and is exploring releasing the PS5-exclusive original on other platforms while promoting the current title, the company reported.

Shift Up, the South Korean developer behind Stellar Blade, reported in its latest financial filing that it will self-publish the next game in the series and is exploring launching the original PlayStation 5 exclusive on additional platforms.

The company said it plans to sustain sales of the current title through seasonal and holiday promotions and strategic discounting while it evaluates platform expansion options. The filing did not include dates for any new platform launches.

Stellar Blade debuted in 2024 as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive under a collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment. Shift Up linked the self-publishing decision to aims of increasing the franchise’s long-term value and repaying support from its global player community.

The report said promotions and discounts will be used to “sustain sales momentum,” and it quoted the studio’s aim for the sequel to “reach a broad global audience from day one.” No release window for the sequel was provided.

Shift Up also disclosed the acquisition of Unbound, a studio founded by game designer Shinji Mikami. The company did not specify target platforms for projects coming from Unbound.

The filing noted that reviewers highlighted the game’s action combat and production values after its 2024 release.
